A Recipe for Joy at Ashlea Court Care Home
Residents at Ashlea Court Care Home in South Lanarkshire recently enjoyed a wonderful Easter-themed baking session as part of our home’s much-loved baking club. The activity brought plenty of smiles as residents worked together, with the help of our amazing staff and chefs, to create delicious chocolate mini egg nests.
From mixing ingredients to decorating the finished treats, everyone had the opportunity to get involved at their own pace. Of course, sampling the tasty creations was a highlight of the afternoon.
Baking activities are just one part of our varied activities programme, and are always a lovely way for residents to spend time together, encouraging conversation, laughter and teamwork while sharing happy memories from years gone by. Celebrating seasonal occasions such as Easter also helps residents feel connected to their community, creating a sense of belonging, purpose and anticipation.
The session offered many wellbeing benefits too. Following simple recipes and instructions can help support cognitive function, while stirring mixtures and decorating cakes encourages fine motor skills. For residents living with dementia, baking can be especially meaningful, as familiar smells, textures and tastes often bring comfort and treasured memories to the surface.
Most importantly, residents felt a real sense of pride and accomplishment seeing their finished Easter treats ready to share with friends around the home, proving once again that a little baking can bring a lot of joy.
